When you're on a freezing mountainside with only the company of your climbing partner to keep you sane, there's nothing like a few 'Glacier Games' to keep you happy. These games allow you to learn what the person you're climbing with is really like, they relieve the tension and give a close bond of mutual trust:

1. Karabiner Poker: The aim of this game is for the leader to guess whether the belayer is telling the truth when they say that they've done up the screw lock. The pressure is on since you might fall a long way if you get it wrong.

2. Bolt Roulette: This is a game for the lead climber. They set one of the pieces of gear so that it will pull out as soon as the second climber falls on it. Since the second climber doesn't know which piece of gear will come free they must ensure they don't fall on any, thus improving their climbing.

3. Ascent Acting: Another game for the lead climber; they must make the pitch look as difficult as possible so that the second climber has plenty of time to worry. Extra points are awarded for mock, 'I'm slipping!' moments and imaginative use of swear words.

6. Glissade Galore: This is a simple race between climbers to see who can slide the fastest by sitting on the ice.

7. Hole Hiding: Following a good glissade one of the climbers may have ripped a hole in their trousers. The aim of this game is to get them to walk through a crowded pub before they notice that their bum is hanging out.

4. Cornice Chicken: Each climber takes it in turns to get as close to the edge of a cornice as they dare. The winner is the person who gets closest to the edge without falling.

5. Cornice Surfing: The inevitable result of a good game of cornice chicken. The aim is to ride the cornice as it plummets down the mountain; points are awarded for style and intact bones.
