A Bit of Background:
After being rejected by NASA and MI5 I got a place at Nottingham Medical School and managed to get to the fifth year. This does necessitate the odd spot of work alongside various stupid cycling and trekking challenges. This page describes some of the stuff I've done over the last few years leading up to this expedition.

Experience:
Travelling: In 1997 I spent 8 months of my gap year living in Nepal. I worked as a teacher and medical assistant in a rural village 150km south of Everest. I had plenty of free time for trekking and also learnt how to speak Nepali. I'm looking forward to returning to this amazing country; there is no-where in the world quite like it.
Since then I've travelled around Peru, Bolivia and Morocco in my summer holidays away from medical school.
Climbing: Over the last few years I have progressed from trekking to summer and winter climbing. I've done a mixture of trekking and climbing on my travels, including numerous experiences of high altitude (up to 6,088m).

Writing: I have recently finished writing a medical textbook about the Endocrine and Reproductive Systems as part of the Crash Course Series by Mosby. Prior to writing this book I had experience of writing articles and book reviews for a number of publications.
Research: As part of my medical degree I've spent 6 months studying nerve connections in the brain. We were looking for a link between fat stores and the reproductive system that could explain why low body weight can prevent pregnancy. The results are published in Neuroscience Letters.
Medicine: Shortly after I return from this expedition I will start work as a Junior Doctor. I hope to train in hosptial medicine and eventually specialise in Genetics. With luck I'll still find time to get involved in high altitude and expedition medicine.
