Hello!!
In April 2003 Stephan and Matt will be trekking into the Himalayan mountains of Eastern Nepal. We are going to the basecamp of Makalu, the fifth highest mountain in the world. We will then live at this basecamp and do two jobs:

1) Researchers into the Genetics of Altitude Adaptation; see The Research page.

2) Medical Assistants; medicine is more of a challenge when the nearest hospital is 10 days trek away!

Mountaineering...
Once the hard work has been done we will head deeper into the Himalayas towards Tibet. This area is largely unexplored. There are many mountains that have never had anyone stand at their base, let alone their summit.

We hope to be the first people to climb one of these unknown mountains. For more details see The Mountain page.

Who Are We?

We are both final year medical students at Nottingham Medical School in the UK. To find out more about each of us see the Stephan and Matt pages.
